The Department has set up an Enforcement Cell with effect from 2016 headed by Joint Controller Legal Metrology Unit tasked with strict enforcement and monitoring of Fair Price Shops and for proper enforcement of the benefits under the National Food Security Act, 2013 together with awareness generation about the Act and prevention of black marketing and hoarding.
Enforcement Cell conducts regular inspection and raids to oversee that beneficiaries of the state receive all the PDS items on time as per their entitlement and at the rates prescribed by the government for the Fair Price Shops. This is being done to check black marketing and hoarding. A total of 380 inspections have been conducted in 2016.
Wholesellers and retailers are being informed of the permissible stock limits. However preliminary studies have shown that wholesellers in our state are few and not adequate storage facilities are available. Most retail stockists are said to be holding stocks for a period of 20-25 days at the most.
